Five reasons to visit the local farmers market on your next RV Road Trip!

When you’re on your next RV road trip, you can plan some great meals with a little slice of Americana on the side when you take time to visit the local farmers market.

Here are five good reasons:

  1. It’s a great place to get advice. The farmers markets are great places to meet the locals. Ask them what they recommend seeing and doing in their home community.
  2. It’s fresh. The local produce just tastes better because it hasn’t spent days on a truck. It was picked and brought straight to you.
  3. It’s healthy. Food is most nutritious right off the vine.
  4. You can jazz up your menu. By talking directly with the growers, you’ll learn even more about what’s in season and maybe even gather the courage to try a recipe you’ve never tried before!
  5. You’ll be supporting family farms. Farmers often receive less than 10 cents for every dollar you spend at the grocery store. By buying direct from the farm family, you’re supporting an American way of life.

Here are some fun photos from the Santa Fe, NM Farmers Market. It’s a great blend of food, music, crafts, and characters!

Today is Flag Day

Did you know today is Flag Day? On this day in 1777, the second Continental Congress adopted the original 13 star version of the United States Flag. And on July 4, 1960, the current, 50-star flag became official.

American FlagIf (like me) you need a quick refresher course on the flag, here’s the scoop. The 50 stars represent the 50 states, and the 13 stripes represent the 13 British colonies that declared independence from Great Britain.

If you like to fly the flag while you’re camping in your RV, there are a few bits of etiquette to remember. The flag should never be allowed to touch the ground, and if flown at night, should be illuminated. If its edges become worn and frayed, it should be repaired, or replaced. the American Legion conducts flag retirement ceremonies and can dispose of your old flag in a dignified manner.

Camper Clinic II has flags and accessories in its online store. Visit the store and search “RV flag holder,” and “U.S. Flag,” and you’ll be all set for those July 4 celebrations!
